The media our global tool

Globalisation and the media go hand in hand, early globalisation theorist Marshall McLuhan 'made the connection by combining 'the medium is the message' with his global village' (McLuhan and Fiore, 1967). When learning about the 'flow's' in globalisation I thought it would be best to interview my Father, after briefly explaining the meaning of 'flow's' of globalisation straight away he told me that the 'media flow' has been most prevalent in his lifetime.

Dad is a farmer and he has been on a farm in regional Victoria his whole life so the media has played a huge role in the dissemination of information that has kept him updated his entire life. With being lucky enough to own a television when he was younger he told me that the whole family would sit down at night time and watch the news together every night so that they would be up to date about national and international affairs.

The use of the media throughout his life has been very influential and always kept him up to date especially with key historic events such as the Vietnam War, September 11, 2001 and other key historic events that have happened within his lifetime. Without the media at times people throughout the world would not be able to be kept up to date with integral information that affects each and every one of us.

I discovered this YouTube video when researching the power of media globally and after watching it was clear to me that it poses a few important questions on what the globalisation of media can be seen as and the effects on its global audience.

The media is somewhat infused within our lives everyday and we rely on it for everyday communication so often that it has now become a habit in our lives. It is evident within powerful countries such as America, China, Korea and Great Britain that the use of media to disseminate information globally is an integral part of each countries culture.
